What is LobeHub?

LobeHub is an open-source platform that acts as your Chief Agent Operator, managing multiple AI agents as a coordinated team. Instead of building and running individual AI agents in isolation, LobeHub lets you hire, schedule, and monitor an entire fleet of agents working together on your behalf—24/7. It solves the critical problem of agent orchestration: how do you make multiple language models collaborate effectively, share context, and produce better outcomes than any single agent could alone?

What is LobeHub?

LobeHub is built on the idea that modern AI development needs more than one smart assistant. You need a team. The platform provides a framework for creating agent-to-agent communication, task delegation, and result aggregation. Built with TypeScript and designed for developers, LobeHub handles the plumbing: managing agent lifecycle, context windows, rate limiting, and failure recovery. Whether you're building customer support automation, research pipelines, or content generation systems, LobeHub treats your agents as a coordinated workforce rather than isolated tools.

Key Features

  • Agent Orchestration: Define hierarchies and workflows where agents delegate tasks to one another, with a Chief Agent Operator directing the flow.
  • Multi-Model Support: Integrate agents powered by ChatGPT, Claude, and other LLMs into a single team without vendor lock-in.
  • Scheduling & Automation: Run agents on schedules or trigger them based on events. LobeHub handles timing, retries, and resource allocation.
  • Real-Time Collaboration: Agents share state, memory, and results. Ask one agent to build on another's output seamlessly.
  • Monitoring & Reporting: Track agent performance, costs, and outcomes through built-in dashboards and logging.
  • Developer-Friendly: Written in TypeScript with full type safety. Deploy locally, on Docker, or to any Node.js environment.

Getting Started

Prerequisites

You'll need Node.js 16+ and npm or yarn installed. LobeHub runs on modern Node.js environments, and API keys for at least one LLM provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.).

Installation

Clone the LobeHub repository and install dependencies:

git clone https://github.com/lobehub/lobehub.git
cd lobehub
npm install

Set Up Environment Variables

Create a .env.local file in the project root with your API credentials:

OPENAI_API_KEY=sk-your-key-here
ANTHROPIC_API_KEY=your-claude-key
LOBEHUB_PORT=3010

Basic Agent Configuration

LobeHub uses configuration files to define agents. Create an agent definition in JSON or YAML format. Here's a minimal example showing how you'd structure an agent team:

// agents/researcher.ts
export const researcherAgent = {
  id: 'researcher',
  name: 'Research Agent',
  model: 'gpt-4',
  systemPrompt: 'You are a research specialist. Gather and synthesize information.',
  tools: ['web-search', 'summarize'],
  maxTokens: 2048,
};

// agents/writer.ts
export const writerAgent = {
  id: 'writer',
  name: 'Writing Agent',
  model: 'claude-3',
  systemPrompt: 'You are a professional writer. Create clear, engaging content.',
  dependsOn: ['researcher'],
  maxTokens: 3000,
};

Start the Server

npm run dev

LobeHub will start on localhost:3010 by default. You'll see a dashboard where you can create teams, monitor agent activity, and manually trigger workflows.

When to Use LobeHub

Customer Support Automation

Build a support team where one agent classifies incoming tickets, another drafts responses, and a third handles escalations. LobeHub coordinates this without you writing orchestration logic. Perfect for support teams wanting to reduce response time and operational overhead.

Content & Research Pipelines

A researcher agent gathers information, a fact-checker agent validates claims, and a writer agent produces polished content. Each agent focuses on its specialty; LobeHub ensures the pipeline runs smoothly. Ideal for content agencies, publishers, and knowledge work companies that want to scale output while maintaining quality.

Complex Problem-Solving

When a single LLM can't reliably solve a problem, break it into sub-tasks and assign each to a specialist agent. LobeHub aggregates results and passes them to a decision-making agent. Great for data analysis, business intelligence, and AI-first products that need reliability and transparency.

Takeaway

LobeHub removes the friction from building multi-agent systems. If you've struggled with prompt engineering limitations or wanted agents to collaborate naturally, this project offers a production-ready foundation. The TypeScript codebase is accessible, the documentation is solid, and the active community (83k+ stars) means you're building on proven patterns. Start small with two agents working together, then scale to complex workflows as your confidence grows.
